Lina returns with a movie review after a century with a movie she watched a century ago called The Soul-Mate.

Holy guacamole you guys I have not written a review in a hot minute. Why that is? I wish I could tell you because I have a couple to write. I might have been in a huge slump when it comes to Korean entertainment but I did watch a hand full of movies last year and a couple of K-Dramas even that I could write about but my writers’s block that was caused by my master’s thesis was so big that I couldn’t even write for the blog. Anyway, funny story I watched this movie on my 14 hour flight home from Korea. Yes I watched this in October 2023. Do I remember any of it? Debatable. Will I still review it? Definitely! I also am currently watching two K-dramas so I am back baby! Let’s review The Soul-Mate.

Summary via MDL: Jang Soo is a judo instructor who loves his daughter more than anything in the world but indifferent to the fellow neighbors. One day Jang Soo realizes that he can see Tae Jin, a ghost who used to be a devoted police officer. Jang Soo pretends he can’t see or hear Tae Jin, however, Tae Jin asks him to scope out the neighborhood to solve the mystery cased he had to handle.

Um, what? I don’t remember any of this plot for The Soul-Mate from the trailer as well I remember bits and pieces. Oh this review is going to be a funny one! Okay, I do have some thoughts because I distinctly remember going into this movie semi excited. I read the synopsis on the little screen in the plane and was like. “Hell yeah a body swap kind ordeal but with a ghost” I was hoping this would maybe be like the Ghost Doctor or something, but I can tell you it wasn’t. The Soul-Mate starts really slow, from what I recollect. We get to know our two main characters and the accident that places both of them in the hospital does not happen until half way into the movie. I kid you not I remember that so clearly.

Like when does the main plot/promise of this movie start? In the middle, that had me rather confused because isn’t that the USP for this movie? Anyway, with the two finally coming together to chase down the big baddy we get a couple of nice moments of comedic relief and teamwork. But everything is resolved very, very quickly and the movie basically ended where it gets good. I remember feeling a bit underwhelmed and thinking “That’s it?”. Mind you it has been a good six months since I watched this sleep deprived and on a plane coming home from the trip of my life.

I’d say The Soul-Mate was decent movie since I still remember some parts of it and the feelings it left me with. Both of these actors are well known and talented and did their job of entertaining me for 97 minutes on a long haul flight. I’d also say lower your expectations for this movie when it comes to the main plot as it isn’t well explored and resolved in too little time. The potential for The Soul-Mate to be a great movie was definitely there and Lina of 2023 gave it a 7/10 on MDL. So take from that what you will.

It feels good to be back with writing reviews! I have more coming soon I promise of dramas that I definitely remember the plot of better!
